Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer across the U.S., and summer means music festivals. What better way to head into the holiday than to look at some of the best music festivals here and abroad?
The first big festivals of summer open this weekend. In the city of George in central Washington State, Sasquatch! kicks off, with an all-American set of headliners, including Beck, Bon Iver, Pretty Lights and Jack White.
Kick back and listen to this live version of Pretty Lights, dj extraordinaire, kicking out his turntable action live.
PinkPop in Landgraaf, the Netherlands calls itself the world’s oldest annual music festival. Headliners there are dominated by bands from America (Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Linkin Park, Mastodon) and Britain (The Cure, Keane, The Ting Tings.) But homegrown star Anouk will be there, too.
Here’s Anouk performing her best-known song, “Nobody’s Wife.”
We’ll check in over the summer for highlights from festivals like Finland’s Tangomarkkinat and Poland’s Country Picnic in July, and August’s Rift Valley festival in Kenya and the Spirit of Burgas in Bulgaria.
Tell us where in the world you’re rocking this summer.
